November 10, Hart's Cove

Finally! A brief break in the weather!
We invited our new hiking friends to join us in a hike the Elk Mt/Kings Mt. loop or maybe Mt. Hebo but due to circumstances, they couldn't join us and we didn't want to chance snow on either hike AND we'd never made it to Hart's Cove yet so we decided to be-bop down to Neskowin for the short hike.

What a great hike. It's short, 2.7 miles one way and other than the first (and last) 1/2 mile, it's a pretty easy hike. It was funny as two hunters saw us arrive at the trailhead and felt a need to warn us that the trail was very hard and steep. We can't say we didn't huff and puff a bit coming out, but it was not a hard hike. It was wonderful to get out and hike again.

Mushrooms were plentiful. Something about our damp environment!

The first, very nice bridge crossed this creek. We are thankful for bridges!

Interesting branches

More fungi. This one was about 12" wide

our first glimpse of Hart's Cove and the meadow.

The second bridge wasn't as nice...

The arrow shows where the trail went. Sure glad we had a trail!

View from the top of the meadow

Hart's Cove and the waterfall

Another, more distant view of Hart's Cove

Looking South. There were some very noisy sea lions at the end of the cape.

Looking North, Haystack Rock, Cape Kiwanda and Cape Lookout.

The darkening sky. It threatened, but never did rain.

We love hiking!!

  2. Julie! So good to hear from you! Thanks for your support and encouragement. We are able to hike because of people like you--who are wonderful friends. I think I can make it because I know there are people rooting for us. It's so scary.

I think of you often! Hugs back, Sue
