September 9, 2012 - Silver Falls State Park

Our youngest son Stephen, and his girlfriend, Amanda, have been wanting to try hiking with us and so agreed to join us for
a short day hike at Silver Falls State Park. It was the perfect trail for our group. Easy trail with a lot of falls and photo ops. The trail was wide enough to allow us to walk two abreast and visit as we hiked. The weather was predicted to start raining in the afternoon but it never showed so we had  perfect weather conditions too.  The falls were running a little low, in fact, Winter Falls was bone dry but we had a great hike anyway and even more importantly, a great day together. They are considering on joining us for a day or two on the PCT next year. Yahoo!

Lower South Falls--not much water

looking down from the falls.

Double Falls. It's hard to recognize when the water is so low.
Drake Falls? Regardless, it's pretty...

Middle North Falls...I think!

Obviously looking up!

The little bunny Jeff spotted. It was very well hidden, obviously!

We felt like the troll in Three Billy Goat's Gruff as we ate lunch under this bridge!

Wide, easy trail.

See the faint trail jutting down the right side? Steve and I ventured down that for a different perspective on the falls. It was fun!

See how far back the trail is under the falls?

Another view from the "alternate" trail.

I forgot to mention there were a few stairs...

Middle North Falls

Yellow Jackets? Hornet? It was active and we didn't linger to investigate.

Upper North Falls

North Falls from the trail-head. We have photos of this a few years ago covered in snow!

Smooth trail near the end...almost there!

As usual, thanks for "hiking" with us and sharing our path!

Love,

Jeff 'n Sue
