Gear Review: Feathered Friends Spoonbill Double Sleeping Bag

This is the second in a series of reviews of the gear we have been testing for our 2013 thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Feathered Friends Spoonbill Double Sleeping Bag

Wow. What can we say about Feathered Friends? Absolutely awesome bag. If you and your partner are sharing gear, this IS your bag! Unbelievably lightweight and super warm. We have never experienced a down sleeping bag before, so we are a little nervous about the care (or lack of) that this will go through on the thru-hike, but we are totally hooked on Feathered Friends and we know that they will take care of us. We have opted out of a sleeping bag liner. We will be wearing our pajamas, so the liner got nixed.

ThermaRest NeoAir All Season Mattress
After a ton of research, we decided on these mattresses from Cascade Design. Great specs for a relatively lightweight pad. We have found that sleeping on our backs or stomachs really heat these up! Photo shows them inflated and in our custom made sleeve. Thanks goes to our super seamstress Kathy!

Both pads deflated, in sleeve, rolled up and ready to load.

Nice and compact!

Absolutely satisfied with our sleep system. We don't want our gear to delay or stop our thru-hike, we need to trust this stuff! We strongly believe in the way these companies do business. Set up to handle the varied conditions of the trail and made in the USA!

Just for Fun . . .

Here's a video of The Bald Guy --  proving that remaining in your sleeping bag while being chased by night things IS possible.
