Here we sit
at home now. Not sure what to do with ourselves. TBG is eating a lot and is working hard to gain weight while I am trying to avoid the fridge and upping my exercise routine. TBG's normal, non-hiking metabolism is high and he's a light, picky eater so even under normal circumstances, he doesn't gain weight. (It's sooooo not fair!) But he's really trying and we hope to knock out the remaining miles of Oregon we have left to do and then try to get Washington done. We aren't done yet!
Oh, in case you are wondering how we got home...we ended up riding a bus from Independence to Bishop where we rented a car and drove home. Dad Owens picked us up in Portland and brought us home. It was less expensive than any other option and we didn't have to worry about our packs. It was kinda fun--one more part of the adventure.
Being back home has been an adjustment. No one was prepared for us to be home yet, (including us) so there are a lot of dropped jaws when people see us. We are trying to stay incognito and not let on that we're home.
Emotionally, well, that's more of an issue for me that TBG. I'm at a loss. What do I do? I don't want to gain weight or lose muscle tone. I want to be ready to hit the trail again. I've been jogging/walking and working out (OMG, it hurts to start the workouts again!!) We've been working in the yard, mowing, weeding and working with the firewood. We have to repair some gear (TBG's shoulder strap ripped our last night) and the zipper on the tent is still not working right, so we have some maintenance to do. Our grandsons are waiting for a hike with us, my nephew is getting married and we have a new great-niece, and several birthday parties to attend, so I guess we'll find something to do to pass the time.
Please, if you feel like contacting us, please do! We'd love to hear from you!
We love hiking!
KOKO & The Bald Guy
Welcome home...for a while.
ReplyDeleteNorth, south, east or west, home is always best! Congrats on what you did accomplish which I think is amazing! Mt Whitney, Kearsarge Pass, and hundreds of miles on the PCT with some amazing views and experiences together. More than most people will experience in their lifetime. Congrats again. Rest all you need and enjoy those around you. The trail will always be there, people don't last forever.
ReplyDeleteGood Job that's awesome! When do you head for OR, WA, PCT? I'm planing on sectioning OR northbound in a few days.
