Return to Horseshoe Meadow and the PCT

We've had 9 days off at Miriam's (AKA Amazon) enjoying her home and family while we tried to fatten TBG up and rest.
TBG gained a few pounds and we decided to just put our heads down and hike so back we go. With the love and support and encouragement of you followers, we are more armed to hike forward. Thank you for all your words of encouragement and love.

With the assistance of Amazon, we tried to not just to pack more, but to pack more high calorie/nutritious foods in our bear canister. That was a challenge! We managed to get most of our 9 day supply in it with the excess in our bear bag.

Amazon, Anchor and Trunk dropped us off at Horseshoe Meadow and from there we hiked back up to the same place on the PCT we left off via Mulkey Pass. It didn't take us as long to get back as it did to come down last week! The same marmot was in the meadow to welcome us back.

We have a 20 mile goal for tomorrow to position us for a 16 mile day climbing Mt. Whitney. Originally, we'd decided not to do Whitney as it was off the PCT and would require extra time and food. But, since we took our break we think we can do it and it will be a good morale booster. While in Lone Pine, on our way up, I bought a "I climbed Whitney" shirt. Now we have to do it!!
TBG, KOKO, TRUNK and ANCHOR. The kids didn't want us to go. I think we all knew it was the last time this time...
The marmot neighbors were quick to welcome us back.

A hint of the trail to come.
The clouds up here are wild.

The trail was mostly up...

A glance at the meadow. After awhile, all the meadows start to look alike.

At this point, I was still mesmerized by the beauty of the meadow.
Hearts continue to be my encouragement and I laugh at the many places I see them...who would have thought, chocolate covered raisins????

Sunset.
As usual, we Love Hiking!

  1. Wow, those are some great pictures - beautiful area. Keep us up-to-date as you are back on the trail. Good luck on Mt Whitney - quite a view up there from pictures I have seen. My nephew did it last year and said it is amazing.
