Picking up the Pieces...

of Oregon...

It's been exactly 2 weeks since The Bald Guy's weightloss forced us off trail. We are happy to report that although not at his pre-hike weight, he has gained enough to allow us to get back. I'm also happy to report that while TBG gained 10 pounds I only gained 2! Not bad for having so much food around.

Since we have about 70 miles left to finish Oregon we are going to pick up those pieces before starting Washington. So we won't be able to complete the entire PCT this year as we had hoped, we should (providing everything goes right now) be able to say we've hiked about 1700 miles when we are done! Not too bad for a couple old folks! I guess we'd better finish hiking before we count them done though!

Having the break has been good and bad. Rest, and in TBG's case eating, has been good. We were also able to attend a family wedding (congrats Dan & Lisa) and hold a new great niece (welcome Aria!) and of course play a little (never enough) with the grandkids. We also managed to cut the grass and work with our firewood supply (not so fun but as we know, necessary). I was surprised to realize that I CAN still cook but there are dishes to do as a result. And we have tons of clothes to wear--and wash. We can ride and not walk--but you have to buy gas and...insurance! It's nice to sleep in and get lazy until it's time to hike again! Actually I have been running in order to stay in condition...did you know running uses different muscles than hiking? OMG! I've been in pain!

Long story short...as great as it's been to be home--we are longing for the quiet and peaceful trail life again.

We are extremely optimistic about finishing. After what we've been through we are pretty prepared. The mosquitos will be our frequent trail companions so we should never be lonely! We hope to connect with some of our hiking friends ahead of us. That should be a lot of fun.

As usual, we thank all of you for your love, support and encouragement.

We love hiking!

We got to meet Lyn & Steve. Lyn is the one who gave me the name KOKO.

We had to take the boys on a REAL hike. They did GREAT!

  2. Glad to hear you will be heading out again and we look forwarded to hearing about the hiking you get in before winter. We have been very busy in July with our son's wedding and a trip to Wyoming/Colorado to visit our daughter and son-in-law. Got to do some hiking in Wyoming and also in Rocky Mountain Natl Park.
