June 10, 2012, Cedar Butte

We planned on hiking
Keenig Creek (Wilson River trail) but neither of us really like it as it's pretty boring so when we pulled into the parking lot and saw the sign for Cedar Butte trail we decided to road walk the 6 miles to the trailhead...
The road was boring too, but at least it wasn't brushy. And it was full of two-wheeled entertainment.

It's funny how once they see the camera, they get really rambunctious in their antics. They thought it was weird to have two folks with backpacks hiking along the road--their road! They were very friendly and respectful though and we listened to the happy buzzing noise all day.
At last, we made it to the trail head. So the trail is rated difficult. It's ONLY .75 miles!....anyone can do it for that short distance...right?
We determined it was rated difficult for a very good reason and it easily compares to Kings and Elk Mountains for difficulty. We were grateful that it was so short!
As in the case of most hikes, the view from the top was fantastic. The wild flowers were in full bloom and it was fabulous. We had the trail to ourselves (Gee, I wonder why?)

Once back to the road on our return trip, we saw the gravel pile we passed on the way up. My goodness, it's a LONG way over there...
It won't be long and these blossoms will be yummy berries!
One of the best views was this one taken from the parking lot when we got back. It sure felt good to be back to the rig!
