June 21- Bighorn Mine

(ghost written by Sydney) We have been staying with friends and today we went on the Big Horn mine trail in Wrightwood, CA. There were some ups and downs.
Miriam, Sydney, and Kendall went with us. We started out at the Vincent Gap parking lot and went down a road next to where the PCT came out. It was about 1.8 miles to the actual building called the Stamp Mill (a piece of cake!), about 7,000 in elevation. There were several places on the trail where we had to go single file and where one misstep could send us tumbling down the mountainside. We found a shaft from the mine about halfway through with water coming out. We would have found water there if we didn't have any water with us; luckily, we did. When we came to the mine, we stopped in front of some culverts with amazingly cool air coming out of them. Then, we all carefully went to the actual mine building and climbed around for about an hour. We-sadly-saw some horrible graffiti on one of the walls and talked about all those people who had artistic talent and decided to use in that way. Then, we ate a little snack and  headed back down the mountain toward the parking lot, making much better time then  when we came up. When we got to the parking lot, we piled into Miriam's car and drove to Evergreen Cafe in Wrightwood.  TBG had clam chowder and peaches.  I had a teriyaki burger with lots of pineapple. Then we headed over to the nearby ice cream shop where I had a chocolate covered honeycomb that was supposed to melt in my mouth; it did at the end.  The bald guy had a chocolate peanut butter cup. Then, we went to the antique store and found really cool things; TBG found some old coins.Unfortunately, we didn't buy anything and then hopped back into the car and drove to Miriam's house.
