(ghost written by Sydney) Today, we hiked a half mile to a miner's cabin. Did we find it?
First we drove to the same parking lot as yesterday. On the way there Kendall stuck his hand into the trunk of the car and earned his trail name- Trunk. Stout, solid, travels, and he stuck his hand in the trunk.
On the walk, we encountered a hiker who said he had been on the trail a dozen times and hadn't found Miner Vincent's cabin. We thanked him and continued. After about half an hour, we came to a fork in the trail. KOKO, Sydney, and Trunk (Kendall) went to the right while Miriam and TBG stayed where they were. Soon, KOKO, Sydney, and Trunk stumbled upon the cabin. It was amazing. Miner Vincent came to the San Gabriel Mountains soon after his service in the Civil War. He lived life as a hermit because he had hurt a couple of men in Arizona who had tried to steal gold from his mine there. He found the Big Horn Mine, which began production around 1896 until about 1910. He sold the mine soon after he found it. He died in 1926. On his deathbed, he revealed his true identity so that he could be buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery (he was buried there). This is the on the Vincent Gulch Trail. Yesterday, we were on the old wagon rode that goes up to the Big Horn Mine and the Stamp Mill. When the mill was active, everything was taken up to the mine via mules/horses and wagon...which was amazing when you see the road now.

After we explored around the cabin for a bit, we headed back. We piled into the car and headed to the Grassy Hollow Visitor Center, where we hung around for about an hour. During that time, KOKO, TBG, Trunk, and Sydney walked outside to the bird viewing center, where Sydney got her trail name: Anchor. We named her that because Trunk was trying to push KOKO to push TBG to push Sydney who wouldn't budge. And so she became Anchor.
After browsing a bit in the visitor center we went to the museum and learned some really cool things about Wrightwood. After that we went home and ate--a lot. We were starved.
Love the trail names! Love Amazon & family for watching out for you and being true friends.
